The Assembly of the Carvair

Unique Carvair Photo's at Southend and Stansted
In June 2007 I received an e-mail from Alan Bennett (see text below). A few e-mails and less than 2 weeks later, I received great and unique photo material, a sample of which you can enjoy on this page.

"Hi Paul, as promised pics of the Carvair from 1961/2 the black and white pictures are of "Golden Gate Bridge" I'm not sure of her reg mark it was quite some time ago. I added a pic of the partially stripped DC4 as well just to let you see what we started with!!! The assembly pictures were taken at Southend apart from the nearly complete which was at Stansted. The 3 color slides are of the first Air Lingus, a view of the Aviaco taken from inside the Air Lingus and a general view with the nosewheel doors of the Air Lingus.

Just to add that these were really great times for me as I was only 16 then, and the guys I worked with on these aircraft were some of the best I have come across, a lot of them were ex RAF at that time we had people from all over working at Stansted then. I suppose a lot of them are no longer with us and through your website it helps to keep those memories alive and that of all the ATL guys not forgetting "Freddie" who wasn,t affraid to don overalls and see what was going on. ....
